What's New

The state recently passed a new education funding law. It is called the "Gatsas Plan."  View a spreadsheet of the distribution of state funds to communities under the plan in Excel. View a PDF file that shows the distribution of the plan as compared to another funding provision (the Odell/D'Allesandro bill rejected by the Senate.

View the New Hampshire School Board Association's description of the plan and the State's adoption of it.

The New Hampshire Center for Public Policy has issued a new report "Putting Pressure on Property Taxes" that shows that state funding for education has continually decreased over the past few years and is now around 26 percent and will reach a low of 15 percent in the next few years.

The Claremont Coalition is one of a number of organizations sponsoring the New Hampshire Citizen's Voice Project (NHCVP). The Project aims to give New Hampshire citizens more of a role in determining what schools need to be successful and to raise awareness about the funding Gap between what it costs to meet state educational mandates to educate our students and what the State provides for funding. As part of its "Fund the Gap" campaign, NHCVP found that there is current a Gap of $2,125 per student or $425 million statewide. This Gap is funded by local property tax payers with local property taxes with tax rates that vary widely from community to community.

NHCVP recently performed a study of some proposed  targeted aid programs entitled "Targeted Aid Plans Don't Fund the Gap, Who Will?" The study reveals that targeted aid plans do not live up to their claims of sufficiently funding education in property poor communities.

The Eagle-Tribune ran a series of articles on the current funding law  including an article by Attorney Scott F. Johnson of the Claremont Coalition.

Targeted aid is the latest talk amongst politicians in Concord. What is targeted aid really about and how will it affect your community? See also a recent article about targeted aid by Attorney Andru Volinsky of the Claremont Coalition.
